10w-30 oil is tough to come by in UK - I went to 12 pertrol stations and 3 large auto-part shops with no luck. Finally drove to my (not very) local Honda dealer and asked for some 10w-30. 'What do you want that for' they asked! I lead them gently by the throat to the relevant pages in the hand-book and they said there was no need to worry about that - they alway put 10w-40 in s2k's. Presumably this does not make any great difference?

I had to put in about 300ml (sorry guys, I'm metric!) of oil over
the weekend and I used 10W-40. I was told it would be fine.
I'm at 1500 miles now.

It started using a little at about 600 miles, any ideas?

When I got my car in september all dealers across the UK advised owners that there is no need to check the oil up to 7500 - 8000 miles. Now all cars seems to be consuming way too much oil and suddenly its a feature. I don't give a f*** but if it is not in the service manual or was not part of the advertising campain, then they must comply with the rules.
I just can't understand how people spends so much cash on a car and seems so relax about oil usage. Not me!
Hey skoda's and lada's don't burn oil do they. Ok they fall to bits after a couple of years.
But any car (old or second hand) that burns oil needs to be fix.

Honda stop the bullshit the fix the damm car!!

GT20000,

my car now has 2500 miles on the clock and the oil usage has started to drop, during the first 1000 it went from High to Low on the dipstick, I'm not sure just how much that is but since 1000 its only used two notches.

It does surprise me that the engine uses so much oil as most new cars don't use oil. I had a 306 GTI-6 from New and in 15K it didn't use a drop, my two Preludes (2.3i and VTEC) and my wifes CRV also never used any oil but then they were already run-in when we got them.

One thing that I did notice was the first time I VTEC'd the car the was a lot of smoke from the exhaust, but this doesn't happen any more.

Good Luck

I replaced almost 3 quarts (mobile 1 syn) by 4300 miles and my scheduled maintenance. Since then I doesnt seem like it has burned a drop in 1200+ miles.

I remember reading in the manual to check at every gas fill up stop.

Maybe I have a rare model? Not more than 1/2 qt at 7500mi!! and not much more than a bar between changes all the way up to 30,000.

I dont think I can drive the car much harder, I just had the flywheel replaced along with the pressure plate, and they said the tranny showed signs of being driven HARD.
But no major oil consumption.

Im waiting to see what the diff fluid looks like at 30k

When I was at the dealer the other day I had the service manager call Honda tech line, and they said

"one quart of oil every 1000 miles is normal for this engine"
