I wonder why theres such a big difference between engines where 1 would burn 1/2 quart, and another would burn through 3+. Im not vtec happy, and only once and a while do I go to the fun zone.

How can our cars be considered "Ultra Low Emission" vehicles with this much oil being burned?

I continued to burn oil (lots of it) up until about ten thousand miles. During this period I would use about a quart every thousand miles. That is when it seemed to stop using quite so much; however, I do not think it will ever stop completly-- and have already comitted to checking my oil everytime I get gas for the rest of my life.

I currently have close to 14k miles on my car. During my trip to S2k Days I used a little more than half a quart (3426 miles round trip). So it seems that my oil consumtion has settled down.

Conc.: You have nothing to worry about. I was worried too, when mine did'nt seem to stop... I think some of these engines just burn a little more than others.

It's just the combination of the rings and the FRM cylinder walls, but it's different for each car. The fellas that changed to synthetic oil early on seem to burn oil way over 5,000 miles, mine however (using normal Mobil), has not used a drop since the first oil change (3,700 miles), but used 2 quarts before that, and I AM VTEC happy...lol. Another twist is the folks down under tend to use NO oil. Things that make you go hmmm... If you autocross you'll tend to notice more oil usage as well because of the design of the engine and the oil sloshing into places it's not supposed to be, but not to worry as everyone says...it's par for this course.

Ask your dealer. Last Saturday when I was at Ed Voyles Honda, one of the salesmen that has one said that there was a memo from Honda concerning S2000s burning a quart for every 1000 miles

I have that memo...

Quote:

"Engine Oil Consumption: '00-01 S2000

The '00-01 S2000 has an engine that, due to its high performance nature, can consume a quart of oil in 1,000 miles when driven at high rpm. And during the first 600 miles (its break-in period), the engine may consume even more oil. Make sure you remind your customers to check the engine oil level EVERY time they fill the fuel tank, and if the need to add oil, use ONLY 10W-30 grade for optimum fuel economy and year-round protection. Have them refer to pages 119 and 155 in their owner's manual for details.

Because the dipstick goes through the cylinder head, oil draining back into the oil pan can wet the dipstick and give deceptive readings. So when checking the engine oil level, make sure you look at BOTH sides of the dipstick, and use the LOWEST reading."

First 1000 burned 1qt. Second 1000 burned 3/4 qt. With 2400 still full. The rate of burn is slowing down even though the rate of vtec is going up. The oil is starting to get dark which I think is a good sign. I would be worried if I was burning oil and it was still clean on dipstick.

I burned through a few quarts in the first 2,500 miles or so, now nothing in the last 1,000.
