"Burn" marks on dash from radar detector cord
I have a windshield mounted radar/laser detector and I run the power cord down the front of the dash, just to the right of the HVAC controls, then to the left of the radio, then along the floor along the left side of the console, then right up to the power socket in between the seats.
I occasionally treat the dash with Vinylex, yet I have what appears to be "burn" marks on the dash anywhere it contacts the power cord, from the rubbing and friction I suppose. I've tried to apply Vinylex over it but the affected areas still remain.
Is there any way to treat this? Or is this something I have to live with?

It almost sounds like the Vinylex (or the dash material) and the covering compound of the cord are having some sort of chemical reaction. I have never used Vinylex or anything on vinyl parts of the interior.
I always am leary since vinyl is a chemical product and some treatments may alter the plastic surface chemically.
I might try a mild (vinyl compatible) cleaner, ask Honda if they recommend something to see if you can remove the Vinylex and stains at once to get down to the base vinyl, that is if Vinylex builds up a film.
I suggest trying any cleaner on a low part of the dash first.
Also see if you can contact the Vinylex company for tech advice.
As far as my Escort radar detector, I ran a home made cord from the drivers side fuse block (a fuse that comes on with the ignition) up around under the rubber edging to above the mirror and attached the mounts for my detector where the relatively useless visor used to rest. The detector now sits just below the top of the window and is quite out of sight with the top up, it pops off when the top is down.
Quite a strange problem. Good luck.

That sounds like a strange problem. Pics would help, as would posting this question in the Wash & Wax forum.
gbaker, so you removed your visor? Do you have any pictures of your set-up?

Sometimes, when a textured surface gets worn smooth by friction it looks shiny. There was one small patch that I blended in with rough sandpaper, but you need to have some skills.

have you tried an all purpose cleaner? i would try p21s apc followed by 1z cockpit premium or 303 vinyl protectant. though i have a feeling you won't see any difference since you said you tried vinylex already. definitely try posting in the wash and wax forum for some creative ideas
