when I first test drove (an 04) It was at Hilton Head Honda, I VTEC'd every stoplight, I wore that thing out, knowing I wasnt going to purchase her, I felt kinda bad, but fair warning to anyone in the area I would stay away from that one its still on the lot, lol.

The idea is to break the internals of the engine and drive train in gradually. I don't believe that VTECing off the bat would be good for the engine. I also think you can feel the engine start to free up as you acquire more miles. (starts to rev faster and pull harder) You kinda have to feel the engine out and see what it wants.

I waited the 600 miles.
However, when I picked up the car from the dealer, the mechanic made a point of telling me that there was a lower rev limiter until the engine warmed up. My guess is that someone at the dealership found this out by experiment!

This has nothing to do with a proper break-in procedure, it has to do with reducing Honda's liabilities from those individuals who think it is ok to top out the car in 5th or 6th gears from LA to Las Vegas or some $hit.
