Brake Upgrade question
I'm considering upgrading my brake system. I have an 05 and wondering if the stock 17 inch rims clear the big break systems such as Brembo or Stoptech. I hate to buy new set of wheels for track and daily use.
Thanks!
Thanks!

just to clarify, why upgrade?
the only reason you would need to is if you are doing moderate to heavy track duty or want a cosmetic upgrade. Upgrading the brakes is not going to reduce stopping distances much, if at all. The only benefit would be reduced fade at moderate to high track driving.

You also get more choice of brake pads compounds that are cheaper, even the race frictions. Loss of unsprung weight. Bigger brake pad surface for better heat dissipation.
Wilwoods 4 pot fit with no spacer on the 17" stock AP2wheel and the 6 pot 13" will clear with a 4mm.
Not to start a war, the stock brakes are great for what they are, no doubt, but there is always room for improvement

I want to replace the calipers as my first upgrade (for looks) and I have my eye on the comptech front/rear brake kit :
http://www.comptechusa.com/store/brakes13.html
I would like to know if anyone has installed it on a ap2 17" stock wheels and if you need spacers. By the way is the spacer a peace of mettal that goes between the wheel and the rotor?
Ideally I will replace the wheels and install a 14" Big brake rotors kit (once again for looks) but I really like the stock wheels, unless I can find something REALLY light.

Yes. I'm planning on tracking my S. Not for cosmatic reason... I should be more clear...
My plan is to do this:
- Upgrade brakes (possibly Brembo or Stoptech)
- Get a second set of wheels for track.
I haven't decide which rims yet as I'm currently researching but I'm going with a set of rims that will clear the big Brembo or Stoptech calipers. However, in order to use my stock rims, I wanted to know if the stock rims clear the big break system. What I meant to say was "hate to buy two sets of wheels."
(I hate to start another war about stock vs. upgrade brake discussion)
