Brake Dust....

Brake Dust....
Hey all.....After 60000 miles, I finally decided it was time for new front brake pads. So, in the process, I decided to get new rotors (drilled/slotted) .
Since I changed the pads and rotors, I have noticed a HUGE increase in the amount of brake dust that gets on the wheels. I can recall reading about certain model years having this problem due to a different part # or something; but I am just in general curious as to whether new pads are prone to being significantly more dustier than older pads. I am hoping the dust will subside a bit.
Also, I am guessing that the rotors may be to blame due to the grooves and holes. Any words of wisdom would be appreciated.

Um, yeah. Any rotor that's not a smooth surface is going to create a lot more dust than one that is. Pretty simple.
You also didn't say what pads you put on. That might help someone to answer. Clues are good

I don't know about your new rotor, but I do find the oem brake very clean (much less dust) compared to other cars I own (G35, BMW 323). Anyone know if there is any special about the oem pad? For example, I heard that racing pad (i.e. ceramic) is lot cleaner than metallic.

Thr pads which I ordered are from HandA accessories, Part # 45022-S2A-000......I don't know specifically whether those are '04 pads though.
The rotors I purchases were off of Ebay, from a company called ROTORWORKS....Ther ran about $225 w/ shipping...They look great and I really do not have any complaints about the braking performance thus far. I hope this info helps.

rotors with drills and slots in them "chew" up more of the brake pad when stopping... that is normal to have more brake dust because of this... oem rotors are smooth so you get less of the pad "chewed up" over time

i am running drilled and slotted with oem pads....
did the install so that the rotors are "backwards"- they look a lot better than stockers, but dont really benefit from the slots.
i get just about 0 dust.
(my rims have 2 coats of synthetic and one coat of carnuba just in case!)

The '04 pads may provide good stopping power but they are by far the dustiest pads I've ever used. The dust doesn't stick much and is easy to wash off which is both good and bad. After a few days of driving you build up an even coat so the front wheels just look like a darker color than the back wheels. But then when it rains the dust runs and streaks so they really looks like sh*t .
