Dont know why BMW owners get so touchy when comparing their car to the S2k.

can you imagine how you'd feel if the New Miata came out and was a better car than the S2000? and cheaper? I think thats how those bimmer owners feel. "DOH! I coulda bought a Honda S2000 AND a Civic as a second car for what I paid for the Z3!" said one Z3 owner.

Touchy? I think that calling an M Coupe's handling equivalent to a Honda Accord is a *bit* of a stretch, don't you?
Naturally, everyone is going to want their car to be best, but let's call a spade a spade.

Precisely, they paid a lot more for a status purchase (evidence that would make Thorsten Veblen smile) and got a worse car, one that doesn't handle or perform as well and is less reliable. But they did get status, although I have to say that BMWs around my neck of the woods are more common that Fords, so the status here doesn't buy much, certainly not exclusivity.

Another option - They could actually like the M Coupe better then an S2000. As impossible as it could seem, I'm sure the M does a lot of things better then the S2000 and to some people "those things" are more important. It's not like the S2000 is the best car for everyone and everyone who has bought a diffrent car has made a wrong choice ... I'm sure they thought long and hard about it (like us) and made the right choice (like us).

David M and JT-KGY said it best!
While doing track days, my "S" passes some bimmers (with lower levels of modifications) and you should see the look on their faces when they find out two things; one - normally asperated and secondly - 2. 0 liter/four cylinders. I have only up graded the brakes and in-take, not many mods, but they really help. The spin diff really helps passing many through the turns. So there you have it, less displacement, faster through the turns, and a faster top end unless their limiter is removed .
That's why they are upset

Both are great cars...I personally like the s2000 much better though, especially the exterior styling Those M coupes are ugly as sin, and the roadsters look herendous with the top up.
