So how did you drop a valve, 44K is hella low for a mishap like that. Is this a common problem with F20/22C's?

I'm definitely not an expert on engine internals, but I have heard that turning the crank backwards can be really bad. It sounds like you only did it once, so probably a non-issue anyway. It might cause more damage than you're already dealing with though.

If you don't need the money from a selling it and you really don't want to rebuild it, I'm with everyone else on making a table out of it. I have wanted to do that for a few years.

This is normally because the oil pump doesn't like it. I've gone full on backwards in 3rd gear (spin) and the motor is still a champ 40K later.

OP - I'd be inclined to fix it up over time. Good chance you'll blow another motor and you'll have a back up.

Not really sure, I tried calling american Honda and dealing with them, however since the car was out of warranty due to the year and not the milage, I got a big F-U from them. Oh well, guess Honda want's to loose customers for life. (And FYI this isn't the first bad dealing i've had with them, I met resistance all along the way with the S2000 for service issues as well...IE Clutch buzz and what not)

Funny thing is that I had the helmet and gopro on when it blew. I may upload it one day.

Honda has bent over backwards for me over the years. We;ve been buying them for nearly 30 years. Both new and used.

Part of me suspects it's how you interacted with them. The Ap1 retainer issue is a known quantity for over rev failure. Any AP1 owner should basically have them replaced if they bought the car used. but sure blame honda for building a race production car (ap1) and than having to change it for the American market. They ruined the motor and killed the handling - basically for people like you who think you've been wronged in some way. Yes, I drive an Ap2 and I'd rather have the ap1 motor.

My F20C went at 31,000 mi. My warranty ended at 30,000 mi. American Honda requested my motor from the dealership and gave me a brand-new F20 and paid for the swap. I paid nothing as Honda was so interested in my motor, and the bill came to $13,000+. I even had a CAI, and the issue ended up being hydro-lock. Your experience is unfortunate, as Honda has done anything and everything to keep me pleased. Except charge me $2.00 per interior clip. But I blame that on the dealership, not American Honda.
