The paint under the tape is "finish quality" paint. It was done that way as Honda planned for the hard-top. Removing the tape on the hard top equiped car definitely makes the hard-top seamless. My understanding is that Honda hasn't really promoted this feature as the tape adheres really well and a number of A-Pillars have required repainting after removal.
