Im sick of this "I'm better than you because I bought my s2000 myself" horseshit. My parents bought me an S b/c I got graduated in the top 3% of my class and I got a full scholarship for ROTC to the University of Alabama. I had to work my ass of, not at a job, but in school. Being in ROTC in college is a huge commitment. My college life is many times more strenuous than that of other freshman and requires a lot sacrifice. I cant go out and party all night b/c I have army stuff to do, sometimes at 5AM, and then I owe them four years of my life after college. My parents didnt have to pay for college and a used S was the reward for my hard work and sacrifice. Did I expect it? No, but they knew I wanted one desperately and I was surprised with it upon graduation. I appreciate my car more than you will ever know.

To be quite honest, if some wealthy relative wanted to drop a nice vehicle on me as a gift, I'd be happy to take it. I kind of doubt that I would tell anyone, though.
I doubt that will ever happen, but I was raised in a somewhat different time. Only the very wealthy or very foolish spoiled their children with lavish gifts and it was looked down upon by people in all walks of life.

Mmm. I've been in the same boat - dreaming of owning one for the last few years.. however, owning one is slowly becomming very feasable right now
somebody kept an AP1 in great shape for me I hope
Cataclysm - a '93 VX eh?.. You'd have to try driving my hellbeater '86 civic 1.3L - 60hp, (when it was new - 264,000km ago)

nwlax23 -- glad you feel you earned it. Wish more of us could be so lucky. I lived on the $100/month stipend I pulled down with my ROTC scholarship -- nothing from my parents -- and was lucky the the school I went to offered free room & board for 4 years along with my scholarship. I couldn't afford to own a vehicle until after I graduated & got commissioned. Enjoy it!

Didn't mean you. IMO you have earned it with your future commitments etc...
I'm thinking about my friend, who bought his 15 year old son a 2005 RSX. I was like "wtf?" the kid doesn't even have his drivers licence yet
I'm sure you've come across kids in HS or college with brand new S2000s etc.
It's just my feeling that it's better to: 1) want a nice car and 2) earn it. Instead of: 1) want a nice car and 2) have your parent give it to you. (IMO).

boy, it's so fun to make assuptions based upon experiences!
like the bumblebee test:
"If I swat at a bumblebee, it will sting me." Last time I swat at one, it stung me. Therefore next time, it will sting me as well.
Good job!
How about: Quit watching "The O.C." where young people get showered with gifts and money. Realize that people work hard everyday and make sacrifices to achieve what they want. I have been given lavish gifts and worked hard for others. I have taken for granted some things and not others. I have been bitten in the ass for stupid things I have done. I have been rewarded for the good deeds in my life. Blah, blah, blah.
Quit drinking your hater-ade on kide who get "blessed" with great gifts such as an S 2000. Why don't you instead focus your energy on making your life successful enough to treat your kids so nicely, yet teach them lessons in life to respect things so nice as a graduation car present?
I've never met a man make a difference in life who sat on the couch and complained all day. Make the most of yours and set your kids right. Don't be jealous of what others have.
