What all do you have to do when selling to a private party from out of state?

how bout u check the local laws of your particular state and the buyers...some states differ from others...surely there is a website for your state's vehicle stuff...Hard to say what YOU should do in YOUR state..when i live in a different state...

Just do a basic CYA - draft a bill of sale, have it signed in front of a notary and sealed, and hand over the title only after you get the cash in hand.

Don't know how its done in GA, but here in Maryland. You fill out the back of the title, including amount of sale, and the buyer takes the title to te DMV. One trick used here, is that the buyer fills out a lower sales price to save sales tax. Be carefull with that though, it's technically tax evasion.

Having a seperate Bill of sale as Saki_GT suggests, great idea. Here's what google turned up...
