Thanks for the feedback guys!

Shamoo, do they make one that is a little less obvious? I've seen hitches on S2000's before that were a bit more flush. Also, is this compatible with both the AP2 and AP1?

Thanks again for all your help!

Also, maybe cheaper than $375?

+1 with the tow hook.
Besides damaging your paint - the trunk lid could be damaged by the weight of the bike bouncing around.
I had your dilemma a few months ago for my Inifiniti and I'm very happy with the tow hook.

It was a bit expensive. With the hitch from www.chaserace.com, plus the wiring harness for potential trailer, plus shipping and all the system was ~$520. The bike rack was an additional ~$400. Ouch! I won't tell you how much my bikes were.

The angle where I took the picture is sorta weird. I wouldn't say it's very obvious when driving. My car is low, and this thing is even lower. The only thing you really see driving behind me is the Chase Race sticker, which I left on. The hitch is hugging the bottom of the bumper and is currently set as high as it can go. It can drop probably another 2 inches or so, but why would you want to do that? Haha.

There are other hitch options, but from the research I did, this one was the "safest" and could probably carry the most load reliably. Lots of other hitches do the following:
Bolt into the bottom of the trunk and can rip out (I've seen pics).
Do not have enough support going back, so the receiver snaps off.

Chase Race has this for both AP1s and AP2s. They are slightly different and they do not interchange.

Yes, it also depends on what type of bike you're carrying. I mean, if you're the occasional rider with a light cross country mountain bike, or a road bike, you're probably fine with the trunk mount one.

If I put my ~50lb downhill bike on a trunk mount, it would rip off before I even started the car. It would bounce down the highway and another car would hit it, probably killing the driver too. Haha.

Just got into cycling so paying that much for a bike rack set up would be nearly the cost of my bike! (Fuji Roubaix) Plus it weighs less than 20lbs. Any ideas for a tack on bike rack? The one I used in the picture was only about $70.

Btw: just got my seat stolen last night outside the gym bummer

Thansk again for the feedback shamoo

I haven't checked out our bumpers to see if they can take it, but that is where the Saris Bones racks put the weight, not on the trunk lid.

Personally, I think you are better off finding a hitch for your MY03 (i.e. Curt Hitch ) and then buying a bike rack that mounts on the hitch ... (and you won't have all of those straps dangling in the wind .....

I got a Curt hitch from JC Whitney ($150) and a Yakima KingPin2 ($110). Installing the hitch isn't all that bad, I did take the rear bumper cover off to install the bolts that go into the bumper supports.
