Big Block V-8 Honda?
I don't see why Honda doesn't come out with a 4.0L V-8 and use their same engineering genius as they did with the F20C series engine and have it pumping out nearly 500 HP. This thing would eat vette's for breakfast and viper's for lunch.
I love getting big bang out of small engines, but it would be nice to see what they can do with some real muscle. Or maybe the highway departments have a petition against Honda building big engines because they don't want to be repaving the roads every week

You mean something like this .................................................. ..........
I guess Honda already did and they didn't put it into production. You think Honda knows something we don't?
And no, such an engine in a sports car won't eat a Vette or a Viper for any meal. A 4.0L engine simply will never have the kind of tire pealing TORQUE that either 500 HP Vette or Viper engine will generate.

you then have weight distribution issues in the S and screw up the balance of the car

your right it would be amazing to see.... but i believe the reason Honda does not make it, is because of their ways over in japan. They have diffrent regulations and gas prices sore over there. The viper over there is pure exotic... to own a mustang you better have some cash... but at that point they think about how a 2.0 engine can make just as much power by just slapping on forced induction.

Honda has always been about maximum power from minimum displacement. They have also been about balance and precision. I doubt any of those criteria apply to either the Viper, and only a couple apply to the 'Vette.
I think if you sat down across the table from Soichiro Honda and asked him to make you a 4.0l V8, he would probably look you straight in the eye and ask: "WHY?"
Your question would be akin to posting in a Viper forum: "Why doesn't Dodge build a lower displacement sports car that gets a decent amount of power from a high-revving engine?"

Bacause, I am pretty sure he's dead. But I get your point.
Dodge does make a smaller displacement 4cly with a turbo on it. It's the SRT-4. Chevy sells the Supercharged 4cly Cobalt SS, and the Solstice will be getting FI soon too. They both have DOHC engines. (Although no 120HP/L of course.)
The 5.7L 405HP Z06 Corvette gets about the same gas mileage as my S2000. Better on the highway than the S2000.
If both Chevy and Chrysler can make cars that fit the whole range of engines and cars, why can't Honda? They have a 4cyl, and a 6Cly. They are developing a V10 for the NSX. Why not a V8 GT car? With the same motor in the Ridgeline or something similar?
Nissan has a V8 in the Titan.

A 4.0L would probably NOT be considered a big block. The 5.7L Chevy's have always been considered a small-block, even the new 7.0L is based on the Small Block design.
To call a 4.0L V8 a "big block" is laughable. I've seen 427 cu. in. V8s called "small blocks and some called "big blocks". I don't think Honda has the desire to make a "simple" V8 engine. Anything they come up with would be multi-valved, multi-cammed and would cost an arm and a leg. Take the NSX for example. As "exotic" as it is, it is priced far, far above any modern day Vette or Viper. It just can't compete. The current rendition of the Z06 is as close as you can get to a V8 "Honda". Why would Honda even bother?
