I am thinking my mods play into my better mileage since they allow the engine to breath easier.

i probably averaged 85-90 on the way to vegas once, and that was the highest mpg i ever got. i almost got 300 miles out of it for the whole tank.

OT. u started the other thread too? whats the deal with all the threads?

I don't know about S2000, but most cars get best gas mileage down low around 40 mph to 50 mph. My '00 E430 has trip conputer and it shows best gas mileage 30 mpg at 45 mph, at 50 mph it goes down to 28 mpg, 27 mpg at 55 mph, and down to 23 mpg at 80 mph. All mileages were tested on flat surface with cruise control for one mile.

I don't know. I do tend to agree with the fact most cars get best mileage around 40-60mph. That being said, I normally cruise between 70 and 80 on the highway, lately I've been making an effort to cruise between 55-65 mph and been keeping the top up this week and my mileage is not any better than normal. In fact, it might be a little low. We will see for sure when I fill up.

It is an imperfect equation based on the fuel maps, RPM, wind direction, tire type, etc. etc.

I remember another guy with a LS400 [my daily driver] got better gas mileage at 70 than 60, which made no sense. Turns out when he was going 60, he would have to speed up to pass people everyonce in a while which offset the gains of going a lower speed.

If your gearing is pretty high, you'll be bogging the motor when trying to accelerate [dump too much fuel] if you are at a low RPM while trying to do so. This also causes excess bearing wear.

The problem is the gas gauge and gas station are inaccurate. With the s2k's fairly close gearing, it's safe to say 65 is better than 70+. Gets 'worse' with gears.

I wouldn't consider that evidence that 85+ gives you better gas mileage. I can break 300miles and fill up under 11 gallons hitting vtec a decent amount, being stuck in traffic, and cruising anywhere from 65-85.

I am never able to cruise at 85+ long enough to test out which is better, but I can get 30mph tank after tank at 75 if I choose.

one of my old professors told me that a big factor in MPG is your speed// air friction. ~speeds above 45ish mph is when drag starts to really kill your mpg. just stick your hand out flat facing forward at 45mph then 55mph then 65, then etc. you'll see the difference.

god damn.... i never ever even touched 300 miles with one tank... the closest i ever got was around 270 ish and that was just once and my light turned on. good stuff. btw i usually dont even vtec much (s2k sin hahaha...) the way i fill up my gas tank is that i either fill up half full around 6 gallons or fill it to the top. i fill only 6 gallons to reduce the weight in hopes of more mpg... hahaha.. dont really see much of a diff...
