Which is better - Life with or without DBW & VSA?
I am just wondering which people tend to prefer - s2k's before or after MY2006 when the changes were introduced. What are the pros and cons of DBW and VSA? I am asking b/c I am looking for a used AP2, but I am still unsure as to which year I should be focusing on.
Thanks!

My G35 has DBW which was just awful. Whenever I would floor the throttle, it's like my request had to first go to a committee to be discussed. Then if they decided it was prudent to go full-throttle, they would send my request along to be carried out. The DBW in my S feels so much more natural. I have no problems with it. Of course, the "purists" will shun it for the sake of shunning it. Also, the VSA can be switched off if you prefer but most people around here who think they are professional race car drivers will tell you they don't need it.

9 times out of 10, when my VSA comes on, it's welcome. That 1 time can be fairly anoying though. I had a spirited encounter with an AP1 at a stop light, and pulled most of a car length on him in 1st, then he gets it all back and more in 2nd, with my VSA light flashing...
Now DBW I don't even notice, it's very well done. And I never have to take the slack out of my throttle cable

Considering that it is defeatable for competition or spirited driving, why would you *not* want VSA?
ZOMG...I AM SUCH A GOOD DRIVAR I DO NOT EVAR NEED VSA
And nobody on this board can tell the difference between a properly functioning cable throttle and DBW on the S2000. And If you say you can, you are lying.

I don't notice the DBW at all. The CDV on the other hand...
And VSA is easily switched off, so it's nice to have the option. It really isn't intrusive at all, even when I am driving in the twisties at 8 or 9/10s as long as I keep it smooth and clean. It does tend to come on if I put too much power down too soon on corner exit.

i like them.
dbw was implemented well, and i dont notice it. i think it will become a change that gets more and more common in cars because of the potential to incrementally reduce costs. and it will become better and better over time. assuming perfect implementation (in 50 years), DBW it has no potential slack, elasticity, or tolerance related issues like a throttle cable, it just introduces programming requirements, which could improve long term auto tuning capabilities. but with today's implementation, i don't notice it driving, i'd pay more for FI, and i have a few DBW-only tuning options (first KW s/c, toda reflash). bottom line: IMO, it's a wash. i don't care either way. and i think it helped enable VSA, which i like.
VSA is the one i'm really a fan of. i DD my car in the winter, and it really makes it easy to be safe. it fixes things for me if i run through a patch of ice around a corner. and when i WANT to spin the tires or spin around a snowy bend, i just push the button and turn it off. but i dont have to. if i don't want to worry when it's raining and i have my wife in the car going to dinner, i leave VSA on. it's not terribly intrusive, so to me, it's a security feature to help prevent accidents while i commute.

I dont even feel the difference with DBW. With my S being the first car I've ever driven with DBW, it feels just about the same as any other car.
VSA I'm not really for or against. It's there, it helps sometimes, it's intrusive sometimes. But, I have the option to turn it off when I wanna have some fun. So, I dont see a problem
