with 4.77 gears you sacrifice a lot of top end power, unless all you're going to do is low speed cornering (ex: auto-x) or maybe dragging ( ) 4.57 would be a better all around gear set up.
4.77 is faster than 4.57 in every aspect. AND - it's only 2-3 hundred rpms more on the highway which is negligible.

Yeah losing 10 mph top speed is really not a problem, at least for me. Don't usually cruise at those speeds. The only thing that would be annoying about them would be the high rpm cruising. But like was said already it is only a couple hundred rpm's higher than the 4.56/4.57 gears. I'm going with 4.77 even though I cruise a lot on highways commuting. Will help me avoid more speeding tickets anyways.

Just about any gear set-up will give you better bang for the buck than a tuned VFAC.
As far as what set to get, I am sure they will all argue what is better, in the end you have to do the math and decide what you want to live with.

Yeah get the 4.77 - they were a BLAST! If I ever sold my turbo I'd go buy a 4.77 diff again in a heartbeat.
