Im sure this will be seen as a stupid question by some, but what is the proper way to check the oil level? Should I check it in the morning before starting the car? Is it better to run the engine a while first, and if so, how long?

Ive gotten different answers when I ask people and the manual is not very clear.

I always check it before starting it up.

Before starting it up in the mornings. I don't bother with checking it at the pump.

I always check when the car is warm...but make sure you check both sides of the dipstick.

I always check my oil while I am naked. The neighbors think I'm weird.

I always check mine the first thing in the morning. It is ok to check it with the car warm but you will get a slightly higher reading.

the oil on both side of my oil stick is uneven.. is that normal??

I don't think it really matters - just be sure you check it occasionally. I get the same reading if the engine is cold or hot.

Yes it is normal. Always go with the side with the lowest reading.
