That, and at the end of the year. Dealers have to pay inventory taxes on anything they haven't sold by January 1st so they're a little more motivated to move things out during that time.

Such taxes are generally due by April 15th but they are calculated for inventory in stock at the turn of the year. At least that's how it was when I worked in the auto industry. Of course, that was 25 years ago so maybe things have changed.

Yes they are cheaper, but the problem is the selection is not near what it is in the summer. If you are looking for something in particular [like finding a very cheap car or a white 2003 with xx,000 miles or so you may be more successful in the spring/summer.
