You do NOT get best mpg at a given speed by being in a gear that requires the smallest least throttle opening.

You will get better mpg in a taller gear with a wider throttle opening.

To a point, of course, you're not going to want to be lugging the engine at 1200rpm in 6th...
I was responding and agreeing to a post that clearly states that our cars don't like cruising below 2.5k rpm's. I even posted that I like and preffer 3k rpm's for cruising.

pjcc/zdan, i think you guys misunderstand each other.
I'm sure Zdan means wide throttle opening BEFORE it htis open loop tuning. as long as its constantly adjusting AF ratio, lower RPM is better.
PJCC, I'm sure you're talking about WOT -> open loop->AF ratio drops, more gas, runs rich.

Best fuel mileage is achieved at 0 rpm. Push it wherever you go.
Seriously, an S2000? If yer worried about gas, maybe you shoulda bought a Honda Fit.
These questions are getting dumber and dumberer, especially the stupid arguments that always results.

I only have a little over 9k miles in my "S" but if I'm on level ground and I'm not in a hurry(like sight seeing) I set the cruise at 40 in 6th. I get 26.9 mpg on average(over 9k miles) we went on a 320 mile drive this last Saturday and got 28.7 mpg but did not drive over 50 mph for about half of the drive. The pic's will show you why. My '06 drives very good at 2300-2500 rpm's as long as I'm not on any steep hills, if I'm on the freeway and going 75-80 mph my mileage drops to 24.8 mpg.

Nothing wrong with trying to have fun with a sports car and trying to get better MPG...

I hate comments like this. He didn't want a fit, he wanted an S2000.
