Default Best Radar Detector

I am going to purchase a radar detector and was wondering what was the most used brand...with the lighter socket in the rear, it seems you would have a lot of coiled wire ....what do most of you who use one have and how installed?

I've just installed a Valentine 1 today. Along with the coiled lighter socket connector, you get a simple hard wiring cable with which you can hard wire it to a suitable wire under the dash or a spare connector on the fusebox under the dash.

The V1 is an expensive piece of kit but it's damned impressive!

i have the escort passport 8500, and i like it a lot.
it works great.

The Valentine 1 is the best - ignore the "Radartest" web site, it is a joke. Car and Driver has been testing detectors for years and the V1 still wins every time.

The Escort 8500 is nice, it is cheaper and smaller than the V1.

BUT, once you have used the V1 with the arrows you will realize all the other detectors do is just "beep". The V1 tells you where the threats are, and that is the killer edge that makes it worth the extra money.
