it's a good idea to go to a local shop and try on helmets, but from what i understand, Schatten offers quality gear for good prices (plus if he's out of state for you, no sales tax!). if i were in the market, i'd visit the local shops, get an idea on sizing and which models i like, and then contact schatten to see what price he can get. someday i'm gonna buy a bieffe from him.

Here's another vote for Northstar . I had originally planned to figure out what size I needed at Northstar and then purchase the helmet over the Internet, but Northstar was so helpful that I decided to purchase it from them. Be sure to check their website for hours. They're not open very late on the weekdays & weekends.
