I dunno about the rest of California, but in the Bay Area, I've never come across a cop who cared about me using a suction cup mount for the GPS unit. I've even been pulled over for other reasons, and they didn't mention anything about it. So I figure it's not a law they really bother to enforce.

id becareful. it will probably slide around since the S does sorta slope on the dash.
what i do is i use the stock suction cup mount. close the radio door and mount it there.
haha ghetto in a way but it works.
or try to find a vent clip i did that for awhile.

just saw this thread. i have this mount for a nuvi that we move between cars. it is surprisingly stable in the car. but if you really drive aggressively on the street, it can slide around. but how aggressively are you driving when you don't know where you are?

between the Modifry options, I'd think his "original" design that mounts near the A/C controls would be less intrusive to the legs of a passenger, and place the GPS at a better viewing/typing height.
but since my wife and I move the nuvi between our cars, I didn't want to have the mounting tab exposed when I don't have the GPS. the beanbag mount seemed to offer a good compromise.
