BayArea Stook Owner...Please Help
#1
Hi all
Need some input from you guys to help me decide. I just got a quote from Anderson Honda in Palo Alto, 01'Silver/Blk for $39099.00 with no force options, non negotiable. Should i go for it or spend time searching for a used one and spend the money on the aero kit? (sorry...i do like the spoilers)
Any input would help...Thanksx1000

Do what I did:
call a bunch of dealers in the same area
"Hi, <Dealername>, Im looking for an S2000, and am trying to not spend more than I have to. I have an offer for <some believeable amount lower than your max> from <some other dealer>, but would rather purchase from you because <some reason>, but am not willing to spend an outrageous amount, especially considering that people in other parts of the country dont get gounged like this. So if you can get any closer, please call me"
or something like that. It worked for me, with several dealers calling me back with offers less than their "firm" price.
You might also try mass-faxing a bunch of local dealers, listing exactly what you want and how much you are willing to pay and when you wish to buy it. Put a date that they must respond by and ask them to only respond by Fax. Make sure that they see the names of all the other dealers you are faxing. And lastly state that the dealer that gets back to you with the best offer by the deadline will get your business.
This might not work too well for an S2k, but its worth a try.
Good luck.
FWIW, I ended up paying $35440 from Steven's Creek for a 2000 with no options in october. and their price was $39k previous to my haggling.

Just go to every dealership and be up front with them. Tell them you want it at this price and only this price. Bring a "fat" down-payment in a cashiers check to show them that you mean business. I tried unsuccessfully for 6 months looking for my S and I stumbled upon one by just calling around. $36,500 no options. Pretty good deal since it was bought at San Francisco Honda. Latez!

I used PriceLine, twice...
the first time, I chose the Bay Area and I put MSRP. The bid expired without any offer.
then the Priceline representative called me, and proposed to extend the offer to the entire state. A few hours later, he was getting offers from LA and San Diego.
I found my 2000 S2000, Silver and Black, at Gardena Honda. I paid $34900 with the windscreen.
It was the color I wanted, available immediatly. It was also a lot of fun to drive it back on Highway 1 and 101.
Bay Area dealers have way too much business (especially Anderson in Palo Alto).

Very True. I actually paid a broker to find a car for me at or near MSRP in the Bay area. The best they could do was $39K just like your offer. Except I had a wait and the color they found was not my color of choice.
I ended up buying used for $35K and getting the color combo I really wanted.
The broker has yet to refund my $250. It was one of those internet car finding services. I think it was called StoneAge or something like that.

I got my car from Honda of Oakland for $36. I think they are expecting a silver/black one any time now. I did have 1 unexpected forced option: the honda alarm came with the car.. but that is a $300 extra that I was willing to buy. If you are interested contact Eddie Nguyen at 510-420-9248.
good luck!

The fax method is very good, especially 'cause it confuses dealers.
Dublin Honda has a 'firm' price of "only" $5K over, and I think they have one right now (unless they sold it.) Most of the time they don't have one, but it is worth a try.
I also saw one in the showroom for a dealer out by Vacaville two weeks ago. Red one. Try calling out there. There's probably less money flying around over there.
I doubt you will have any luck getting a lower price from Anderson, even at $39K they WILL sell the thing, so why should they bother selling it for less?
(Wow! On the other board, this thread would have degraded real quick to a discussion of communism! This is *SO* refreshing!)

Dear all,
Thanks for all the input, you've been great help. I just got this quote from Penske Ontario: $32740.00 + T&L. I'm flying down there this weekend if my "CFO" approves the deal.
