Average miles to the gallon on S2k
Heh, I wanna know how I'm getting better average miles to the gallon than what edmunds says about the car. It says: 18 City/ 25 highway/ 21 combined.
I like to track my average miles to the gallon from time to time to make sure everything is working okay, like tire pressures and stuff like that.
I reset my trip A right after filling up a full tank of gas at the station. Then I wait till I'm almost out of gas, and fill it back up, and dived the miles by the gallons pumped. I've done it twice and the first time I got an average of 24.89 miles to the gallon. I check it another time and get 24.65 miles to the gallon. I'm getting BETTER than what the specs say. I usually drive highway, but HEY? I love this car! Manuals are so efficient! :-D
Anyone else take on this?

In my normal commuting of 50/50 city/highway I generally get 24-26mpg. I don't make any efforts to save gas. This is my normal "fun" driving.
EPA economy estimates are notoriously inaccurate (not just on the s2k).

EPA MPG is really a crap shoot. I had a 90 Integra (rated at ~26MPG combined), and could squeeze out 30mpg (without AC) and 28mpg (with AC) driving in rush hour traffic. The traffic was the "get to 15mph, then stop for 20 seconds. Rinse and repeat for 30 miles" kind of traffic.
I am also getting ~24mpg in the same kind of traffic, but less sitting and a bit more speed for 22 miles in the S. But I didn't buy this car for MPG, I bought it for fun to and from work. If I really tried to squeeze some MPG out of it, I could probably be closer to 26mpg on the same commute.
If you are looking to get better MPG in general, get some good hard tires (less rolling resistance, shift at 3k, coast WITH clutch in gear (ECU cuts fuel above a certain RPM, I think above 2k if off the throttle) and only put enough fuel in the tank for the trip your taking (less weight).
But if your doing that your not really driving this car the way i should be driven. It is not an econo-car. I am NOT saying test the VSA/tires/suspension on every turn or redline at every shift though. (gotta throw that in there, I and others are on the streets with ya, be nice to us.
If your driving in traffic, stop and go, your getting normal (for me) MPGs that I see in my commute. I usually shift in the 4-5k range in traffic, sometimes lower. No point in getting the revs up if you have to stop frequently.

If i wanted great gas millage I'd get a regular old civic or corolla. It just makes me smile that S2K's still get such great gas millage for being a quick car. Hell, that 24.65 I'm averaging I forgot included bumper to bumper traffic for 30 mins slowly creeping in and out of 1st gear (worst part of manuals). So 24.65 is damn good for this quick of a car. :-D and yeah operator, i shift sometimes lower for the same sake of what you're saying, why push it up when you gotta slow back down.

I love this car in every way including the mpg i get, last week i went upstate, 370miles on one tank, i averaged 33mpg, with ac on and top up, i just wanted to see what i could get. In the city i usually drive very hard, so i average around 20mpg.

it really depends how much highway driving. doing almost all highway maybe 80/20 local i got like 29 mpg. i would say that it's easy to get around 32-34 straight highway doing 65-70.
but if i do mostly local and a bit of highway i would get usually 22-24 mixed. this is with vtec sometimes multiple times a day.
