Automobile: Z4 is better than S2000!
Actually, the December issue of Automobile has a Z4 road test. They say "The Z4 3.0i is easier to drive close to the limit than the Honda S2000 and is a more tactile , involving experience. It is also much more of a driver's car than either the Audi TT roadster or Mercedes SLK and is more polished and well rounded than a Corvette convertible."
Of course the price as tested is $45,320 (ouch) - and then there IS the question of styling......

that sounds like an oxymoron to me. I have no doubt it's easier to drive than the S2K, one is a luxury touring roadster and the other is a rigid sports car. However, i think the fact that the S2K is a true sports car is what makes it a tactile, involving experience. I wouldn't trade me S2K for a Z4 if you paid me 15 grand.

The the Z4 can be optioned up close to or above $50K.
When you get close to $50K they should mention how it stacks up against the Boxster S.
Also the Z4 is heavier and less powerful (that's not good)

I am not sure that the author is saying that it is better, but he likes what makes the cars different. Making a car easier to drive at the limit does not make it a better car.
That being said, Automobile seems to have a european bent, and I think that is also at work here. But he is entitled to his opinion, even if he is wrong.

Not having driven a Z4 yet, I would say that its mission is more towards the touring crowd than the sport crowd. Therefore, it probably is easier to drive close to the limit and is probably engineered to be more forgiving of driver mistakes.
The S2000 is a driver's car. It is demanding (like a Viper but with lower limits) and requires the driver's constant attention when driving near the limit. If you make a mistake, the S2000 won't cover it up with fancy electronic gadgetry -- it'll show you what your little mistake can do. Also, the S2000's limits are probably a bit higher than those of the Z4 and anytime you play with higher limits, a little mistake can really be exaggerated and costly.

Dude, I can't understand what type of person the Z4 is marketed to. I'm sure it is easier to handle at it's limits, it is so much less of a car then the S2K, or the Z33 for that matter. I really don't get it. The Z4 is slower then both cars, is almost 20K more, and looks ugly as all hell. How can they get away with that???? I could get a new Z33 enthu. AND a used Stook for around $50K, or I could get a Z4.
