Auto insurance question (Progressive)
Progressive has something on their quotes called "Custom Parts and Equipment coverage" that is intended to cover aftermarket stuff (ie stereos). I've been getting other online quotes, and most other insurers don't have this. I plan on putting a decent stereo in ($1500?), possibly a GPS ($800), and some other mods down the road (CAI, etc). For those of you who've dealt with insurance more (I've had 1 minor comprehensive claim in 7 years of driving), I have 2 questions.
1. Is Progressive's add-on coverage worthwhile? It is $31/month for $2000 of additional coverage ($3000 total according to them).
2. For companies other than Progressive, have you had any problems with getting a replacement-value comp claim if your stereo or other aftermarket parts (or the whole car) got stolen?
Thanks in advance.

Most insurance companies cover up to $1,500 in stereo equipment with out adding extra to your plan. Many insurance companies also cover communication devices as well as navigation devices that are in the car. Be careful, I reported to my insurance company that I had $3,000 in stereo equipment that I wanted to get additional coverage for...and they dropped me 6 months later (law says that is the soonest they can drop you) due to the "high risk" from the amount of equipment in the car. I have Progressive currently, and I have not told them anything about stereo equipment, and will not request additional coverage.
