how do you guys figure how many quarts of oil you use? Don't you just go by the dipstick?

I've got a MY01 so I'm speaking out of school here, BUT, the '04 is a high-rev engine (I don't care WHAT they say ). Any high-rev engine is gonna burn oil.

I've got over 23,000 miles on my baby and she still burns oil with a lot of VTEC'ing. I always carry a quart in my trunk and check it with every fill up.

Bought my 04 in October and just hit 1500 miles. No oil usage at all. 6 out of 10 tens I drive it, I vtec it. This pic is of original, off-the-truck oil with none added as of 1516 miles.

I decided to change the oil at 1500 because I do vtec it often and this was original oil following assembly. I plan on staying with dyno oil changed at 3000 mile intervals from now on. I don't see the point in spending on synthetic when the manual states the synthetic does not lengthen the change interval.

you are actually supposed to leave that oil in there til 3750 miles I believe due to the special additives, etc. from the factory, its in the manual...just so others don't make this same mistake. Probably won't hurt it much, but I would rather not change it so soon.

Hustn, your first picture brings up a question. I have always been under the impression that the oil level should ideally be halfway between the H and L marks on the dipstick, and that at the H mark it can be too full. Obviously if that picture is with the factory fill then Honda puts enough oil in to bring it up to the H mark on the dipstick.

So I guess I've been wrong all these years?

I top the oil off to the top of the cylinder head, just to be safe.

Since you decided to post this publicly, I will respond in the same manner.

Sorry, I made a statement about something I thought was true for some odd reason and then just got carried away with it...Oil is not my area of expertise, I should leave it to those of you who know for sure.

I do apologize for my statement, but there was no need to make it personal. If I was wrong, tell me why and explain the truth, don't make a personal attack.

Thanks,
Sean
