Having once owned a '98 Mustang Cobra, a juvenile smoky drag launch was always a hoot. In fact, as much as I loved my beloved '01 S2000, I could never get the courage to rev it to 7000 RPM and drop the clutch without fear of breaking the car.

So, with the added low-end torque and revised gear ratios, is it easier to do a drag launch with the '04? Keep in mind that I realize the car isn't made for this type of abuse, but it would be fun to be able to do a drag launch once in a while.

I just broke my car in tonight and took off from a few red lights. I did not drop the clutch or feather it in anyway and I can tell you that this car WILL do a smoky burnout without revving it to 7K and dropping the clutch. This car just pulls so hard compared to the pre 04. I never owned a pre 04 but I have driven a few and the new engine pays off.

There's an easy solution... pour some water in front of the rear tires, roll onto the water, and then drop the clutch. It's much easier on the driveline and the water will burn off pretty quickly I imagine... then the smoky fun begins.

Theoretically the pre-04 should be able to do a smokier burnout because you can reach higher speed in 1st gear. Although the '04s do have wider rear tires too...

Man if there is nothing more thrilling than a burn-out you really need to take an S2000 to a road course and see what thats like!

Get a line lock and it shouldn't be a problem.
