AP3 or AP4? The Next S2000 News
I really keep thinking the '00 to '03 should be AP1, the '04-'05 should be AP2, the '06-'09 should be AP3 (significant changes, ECU, DBW, etc.) which would make the 2016 or 2017 "new" S2000 an AP4, right?
Ummmmm....this article says "automatic transmission"..... and removable top, not convertible.

Until Honda builds something and names it S2000, it isn't an S2000. We can read all the conjecture articles we want to, but it doesn't make it so until Honda says it is so and builds it.

Without an actual AP3 chassis, you cant 'consider' a new car to be an "AP4". Unless they did just happen to name it AP4. Also if this car would be a direct replacement for the S2000, it would typically have nomenclature as such. It could be "AP3" or it could be something like "AS1" If it's not remotely related, it'll have something completely different. I do think with a long hiatus, it wont be related.
Now S2200 I can agree with because the S series (600, 800, 2000) had been named by displacement.

Honestly, they had me up till hybrid DCT. They're adding to the cost for 2 things I specifically don't want. Make it MR, yes! Add the 2.0T, yes! But give me a 6spd, they can keep the hybrid, and pass the savings on to us.
Honestly, I'd bet they sell way more 2.0T 6spd's at $45-50k than 2.0TH DCT at $70k+. But that's just my opinion.

I don't care what they call it. This will not be an S2000 successor in anything but name.
Honda's keen to tap into the market of S2000 admirers, make no mistake, but if you go into this expecting an experience akin to your darling AP2, you'll be disappointed. There won't be anything like the S2000 ever again.

You can certainly think what you want but without the chassis & code (look the 4th through 6th characters in your VIN -- these aren't just arbitrary designations) you can't just call them AP3's or AP4's for that matter. There's no guarantee that Honda would use the same coding scheme for a follow-on.
