ap2's have 6-10% more hp from 1-8k

I have had experience doing a few acceleration tests with an AP1 last year when I met up with a few S2k guys from Tuscaloosa, AL. We set up a test in 3rd gear at approximately 2000RPM (they weren't exactly the same due to gearing differences) and raced up to VTEC engagement. Since we were at such a low RPM, it took some time to accelerate to 6000. By the time I got to my VTEC engagement in my '04, I was already almost two car lengths ahead of the AP1.
We also raced from a standstill up to about 80mph and I beat him by about a car length, but I think it was just the difference in driving.
Finally, we raced from a VTEC roll in 3rd or 4th (I can't remember) and we were dead even on up to highly illegal speeds.

why do people get mad when somewhen says that the ap2 is a bit faster then the ap1. IT IS!!! plan and simple, not a big deal, one could beat the other depending on the race. Just don't get to defensive just cause you wish you had an ap2 instead
the ap2, as someone said, IS EASIER TO DRIVE FAST. this does NOT make it faster. while easier to bang out a 13.7 or 13.8, the ap1 is still capable of hitting those times.
BOTH have done 13.6's plain and simple. and when they run similar times their traps are also similar.
why is it people want to base everything off personal experience when there are 40,000+ other S2000 owners out there who might be faster than the 5 S2000's you've just raced?

Here's a dyno of kitwetzler's stock 2004 vs a stock 2002:
I was supprised when I saw it and there are probably other comparisons that are closer.
And Wis: I think by focusing on straight line races you are minimizing the differences. The torque/lower gearing should really help coming out of turns...

barelly huh. try a car and a half by the end of second and still pulling. both top down with me having a passenger. ya but thats just barelly huh, your right.
Ya if i saw me on the streets i would be scared to, especially since I have my "kill list", and have cars beat that have so much more hp then me, and yet make less to the same amount to the wheels and are heavier.

uh.............
That's really funny.

They're about equal. Matter-of-fact the AP1 is faster on most auto-x courses. The AP2 requires a shift into 3rd gear on some courses, or leaving it to bounce off the limiter in 2nd.

as for the dyno, what I'd be REALLY interested to see is 3-4 dyno pulls from each car on the same dyno.
Dyno's by nature have as much as 3-5hp error. someone could easily do 1 pull on an ap1, get a somewhat "low" average, and then do a pull on an ap2 and get a "high" average.
what you'd really need to do to see the difference is about 3-4 pulls from each car on the same dyno back to back. then you could compare.
to use an analogy i think xviper said, you could take your car. do 3 pulls, dyno it, and pick the lowest run. then, add a spoiler to your car. then dyno again 3 pulls and take the highest run.
so once you put the two together you can say "look see, this spoiler added 5hp!". get the point?

jasonw -
is that showing the 2004 netted 18 more hp than the 2002? and both of these cars were completely stock?
