this isnt entirely true. yes, a certain point you can lower vtec TOO far, but for the most part lowering vtec about 1000-1200rpm has proven VERY good for power. i know of a few AP2's with vtec set at 4800 and the car rocks with it set there. mines set to 5400(any lower for me and i was starting to lose low end) and my car loves it. it hits the cams at 5400 and then screams all the way to 9k. its quite the rush.

lowering vtec is the one of the single best ways to improve you midrange power as well. with my vtec set at 5400 my whp from 5k-7k jump by 14rwhp!

can you change the vtec engagement point w/o adding fuel (via VAFC for example)? if you change the vtec point does the stock ecu add necessary fuel to take advantage of it?

ya, you can, and the ecu will do any adjustments, but its best to get a tune.

I thought the iVTEC system was improved upon the original VTEC so that the power was more spread across the power band? Like different cam lobes are activated at different speeds/rpms to create more linear power?

It does, but the F20C/F22C only have VTEC. AFAIK Only the K-Series 4cyl motors have iVTEC. Even the newer 6cyl engines still have regular VTEC, although Honda marketing state that their 6cyl engines with cylinder shutoff (3cyls shutoff during highway cruising and active noise cancellation is used in the cabin) are considered iVTEC too.

ah ok...thanks for the clarification =)

any idea why they ddin't equip the S with iVTEC? especially in the ap2's they wanted to make it more streetable....iVTEC would have pushed more of the power towrads the low end...

I think ivtec was developed or at least implemented after the F22c was designed. They didn't want to mess with it much.. the head in the two engines (f20c/f22c) is virtually (or entirely?) identical so it would make sense financially to stick to the original design.
