2008 version will have a gun rack option!
Um ... uh ... I disagree.

The essence of the AP1 is the combination of design decisions and compromises that it brings to the table. It is unique in so many ways that to compare it to any other car is foolish. Design intent, focus, and clarity, are what makes the original S2000 such a great car. Saying that the 9k redline is what makes the car totally unique shortchanges all the other things that make the car great.

I'd agree if you'd said that the 9k redline was a *part* of what makes the original unique, but giving the redline all the credit really shortchanges the car.

If the AP1 is a totally unique sports car (and I believe it is) then the AP2 is a more civilized, more refined version of the same car, is it not? It is actually EXACTLY like comparing an MGA and an MGB, but I have NEVER seen MG owners argue about which is better. How come they're so much smarter than us?

AP1 owners need to justify their purchase. Including myself. Long live the AP1!

[QUOTE=dyhppy,Sep 27 2006, 05:25 AM]i think the only thing really missing in the ap2 is the tighter steering ratio.

Well, if you think we must justify it, then here's mine:

I received my brand new S in October of 2000. I've had the immense pleasure of enjoying this car for many years LONGER than any AP2 owner. Maybe it's the AP2 owner that has to justify how they missed out for all those years. But quite frankly, does it really matter?

And when I hear of people saying garbage about how awful it was to get the plastic window, these are people who .........................
1. Never had the smarts or initiative to take care of it.
2. Don't have any real experience with living with one and are just using their vivid imaginations as to why it's better to not have one.
The plastic window argument is profoundly based on bovine feces.

Can't wait till ap3 comes out so we can all talk about how ap2 is better than ap3 because is revs to 8k instead of 7k and yet its better than ap1 because ap1 revd too high.

I have an ap1 without a plastic window, so I guess I got the best of both worlds.

. . .
When I was shopping I wanted an 02 gpw with red interior. None available for a month or two. Then I looked at 04+ but they were a little out of what I wanted to spend on a car at the time (not that I couldn't afford it, just didn't want to tie up my finances while I'm young as I am paying for college). Either way, I found a great deal on the 00 I ended up purchasing. The plastic window thing bothered me before I bought the car but only because owners on here seemed to make it seem like it was a huge burden taking care of it. After I purchased the car, I used your diy for the tint. My window is very clear and problem free. I love it. I cannot lie though, the 9k redline did help weigh the scale towards the AP1.

Also, you purchased the AP1 when there wasn't an AP2 available so no need to justify your purchase. My comment wasn't worded properly and came out seeming negative. What I mean is the people who feel as though the AP1 is better than the AP2 just because of the redline need to justify their car which has been refreshed.

You can always do what sweetj did: replaced her blown F20C block with an F22C block (not sure if F22C is the correct designator for the 2.2L engine)

Keeps 9K rpm, AP1 ecu, head, transmission and diff.
Add's torque, displacement and hp.
