I chose ap1 because it is the it was what I wanted back in 2000. I bought a 03. I like the clean 90's look and 9000 rpm too. Ap2 is nice but seems like they took away alot of the things i liked about my 03

If you are in the market for used s2000s, AP2's are DEFINITELY a better deal than an AP1.
S2000 have depreciated alot in recent years, and often times you can get a low-mileage younger AP2 for a few thousand more than an AP1.
It all has to do with the fact that AP1 owners got rimmed when they purchase their S2000 new with markups, and can't accept the fact that their car has depreciated like a rock. Where as most AP2 owners in recent years purchased at or below invoice, and they can let go of their cars at a fairly reasonable price.
used ap2 ftw > ap1
PS.
- 9k redline is hype. (you rev that high in DD?)
- both cars performed equally at the track (see Best Motoring)
- AP2 engine dynos more than AP1
- if you want raw, you should have gotten an MG.

go out and drive both cars (a used AP1, a used AP2, and a new AP2). think about which one you would most like to own if money wasnt an issue -- this is the best model, for you.
my bet is that if you have never driven an s2k before, 99.9% of ppl are going to say the new (or used) AP2 is the car they want to own (money factor aside). it's a newer car and it's been updated and improved over the years.
if you came from an AP1, you'll probably be bias to some of its rawness that the AP2 lost. but to a new driver, most will consider the AP2 plenty raw and prefer the 'new' factor of the AP2 (torque, styling, wheels, etc.).
My question is what is the best year for AP2? im partial to '05 -- best looking wheels, best seats, and no silly VSA.
but no matter which model, every s2k will make you smile
