AP1 VS AP2
#181
I appreciate this thread for it's technical discussion. However, any comments on whether the AP1 or AP2 being better is purely subjective.
I think the best S2000 is the one you own. I like my AP2 and really enjoying autocrossing it and running it at HPDE events in addition to using it as a daily driver for my 50 mile round-trip commute.
I can absolutely see why others prefer the AP1. To each their own.

So the BMI video where they compared the AP2 vs AP1 is worthless to you?

So the 11 of 17 national level races in the last 2yrs with AP1s & AP2s competing, including 2 National Championships, with the AP1 turning quicker times is worthless to you?

If you are talking about non-professional Joe's taking their car to national AutoX and HPDEs, then yeah it's a tier below in worth than a competition with professional drivers actually pitting the two cars/setups in question against each other.

Funny how none of those articles have a mention about an AP1 S2000, or any S2000 for that matter. The AP1 has been on the market quite a bit longer than the AP2 (8 years vs 4 years), of course the probability of the AP1 being at the top in the autox times will be higher. Does that mean the AP1 is quicker around a RACE track? Nope.

So the BMI video where they compared the AP2 vs AP1 is worthless to you? Granted they both had the F20C, but the handling is what matters you said. I could understand that you are arguing about handling FEEL, but you stated there was no improvement in dynamic (handling) performance.
Note that I didn't say the AP1 is better-handling, only that ultimate handling was not "improved" with the AP2.
IMO, not a big deal really.

I started this thread a while back because the video I link to in the opening post shows what Honda had in mind when developing the original AP1. The suspension and handling package this testing yielded works extremely well for some drivers and is about as much fun as one can have with an engine and wheels. It was also too much for many drivers and has since been toned down a little, as anyone can clearly see by observing the handling of the pre-production prototype. It does not appear that the car in the picture has any more instability or tendency to oversteer than a stock MY00-01 AP1, but it's impossible to be sure simply from watching the video. Anyway guys, take a look.
I want to respond to a number of the posts that were made since last night, but it's going to have to wait a while, because we have company today, and I have to be nice and not ignore them.

omg, we're still on this topic?
whether its a AP1 or AP2 its still an S2000.

(I quoted that for a reason. )
Whether it's a Boxter or a 911, it's still a Porsche. What does that have to do with discussing the differences? If there were no differences between the cars discussing differences would be dumb, but do you think that's really the case? Are all S2000's the same?
