ap1 s2k vs. '04 Porsche 911 GT3
I believe the GT3 is an amazing machine and wanted to know what it would cost and what parts were required to make an ap1 (02 +) outperform it.
Of course this is all speculation and in good fun. Just dont ruin this thread with posts saying that investing this much in a s2k would be a waste.
There are a few rules though:
1. maintain soft-top and full interior (no more weight saving )
2. ap1 must have 18" wheels like the GT3
3. AP1 may not be allowed to use BBK at all (se below).
4. must be completely streetable of course.
5. Ride may not be super stiff (look @ #4)
6. Tires must have as much treadwear as stock , not less (similar to gt3)
7. rear spoiler of some sort for downforce (just like the competition)
8. nothing to off the shelf that would make the car look far from stock (use your judgement)
Here is my full list as to what is required:
Braking:
- better brake fluid
- stainless steel braided brake lines
- better brake pads
- brake ducting (not so sure)
- wider tires in the front
- better tire compound to accomodate wider wheel in front
Handling:
- Buddy club, bilstein or tein flex coilovers (ohlins and motons are wayy too stiff for daily driving) - lowered approx. 1"
- J's racing driveshaft spacer
- Tires with stiff sidewalls (low profile preffered), decent treadwear, and can handle in both wet and dry conditions
* widest tires possible on wheel widths w/out rubbing
- Volk te37/ce28, ssr gt7, or any other lightweight high-quality wheel with a decent price.
* 18" x 8" front 18" x 9" rear / 18" x 9" all the way around
- possibly a front sway bar
Misc. :
- Bucket seats
- mugen or other low-profile rear spoiler
- vented hood
Engine/drivetrain:
- aggresive engine buildup or FI
* comptech supercharger preffered w/ upgraded pulley, fuel injectors, J's headers and AEM EMS (380 rwhp expected)
- titanium exhaust
- bigger radiator
- oil cooler
- upgraded clutch
do you guys think that this is all that is required to make an s2000 outperform a 911 GT3? any and all ideas welcome.

Uh... Its gunna be insanely hard to get a s2000 to outperform a porshe GT3, possible, but not worth it... There is a member on here making ~600hp on a twin turbo F20C... its a spa yellow s2000.
If this car has fully tuned stiff suspension, wide body kit, very wide rims, and pritty much rebuilt from the ground up, i see no reason why it couldnt outperform it.

i've been drinking, so bear with me.
buy this s2k, you should be able to take the gt3
i believe "streetable" & "outperform a gt3" is an oxymoron. just to get your s2k to beat that in a straight line would require mods that would increase the decibals of daily driving to race mode, otherwise unbearable for a street car. like the other guy said, possible, but not worth it, and from the sounds of it, not going to meet your requirements of a steetable car.
why am i replying?

You pick the spring rates, and you valve the shock according to the spring rate...I'm not sure why you would spend $5-6k on Motons and then valve them soft, but you could if you wanted to.
If you SC'ed your car, did appropriate mods (EMS, bigger injectors, etc) , you could get ~300-320 WHP , you should be able to keep up with it.
ATE Blue brake fluid, and Cobalt Spec VR's , and brake ducting will improve braking big time...but it all depends on tires. 17" CE28N's in the right offset with wide 235 F and 275 R will give you a ton of traction.
This is all hypothetical, and BTW you probably don't need these mods because most GT3 drivers are slow as hell

I just happen to have both cars so I feel qualified to speak on the topic. Instead of trying to answer your specific ? let me just comment on the cars. #1 the Gt3 has alot more power. You probably could make the S as fast but it wouldn't be nearly as reliable. The engine in the Gt3 is essentially a race engine and if you watch any racing on TV you know how reliable the Gt3 cup cars are, they just dont break--ever. #2 the Porsches brakes are some of the best in the world.--But the Ss brakes are very good also, they just cant hold up to the abuse that the Gt3s can, so I am constantly replacing pads and rotors on my S, not on my Gt3. #3 I think the S handles wonderfully and I wouldnt change much unless you are going to track it alot or race it. The S is a much more streetable car and its a convertable. #4 The ergonomics of the S are better, the Transmission of the S is better. the interior of the S is better. The S is easier to drive at the track, you need to be a more capable driver to drive the Gt3 at the track. I drive both of my cars at the track and I am obviously faster in the Gt3, but I am also faster than other
Gt3s in my S. You would need to do most of those things on your list to equal the
Gt3 and then deal with the parts breaking all of the time as the S just isnt built like the tank that the Gt3 is. Im tellin you the Porsche is way overbuilt to take hard abuse and keep on going. Now all that said I really like my S and my Gt3 is for sale.
