How this is even possible?
I don’t really do any “city” driving in the s2k, only a little suburban “stop and go“.
But if I shifted at 2.5 rpm’s I’d probably get rear ended by a smart car.
It's entirely possible. Depending on how slow the cars are ahead of me I usually shift from 1st --> 2nd or 2nd --> 3rd at 2.5k RPM if I don't need to rev high or are coasting, then just gradually build up speed in that gear. I vary my shifts depending on how fast the city traffic is going and if there's cars ahead of me. If I'm the lead car I usually shift at 3k-3.5k RPM. My engine "feels" like it wants to shift around 3k RPM when just cruising casually. It works since I usually average 380-400 a tank, yet I VTEC every day and have a lot of fun with the car.

I was having fun today and burning up the road a little bit and sliding through empty turns though, probably because it's a hot day and the air feels so good with the top down.

nope, load on the motor increases as the compressor now has load. It's driven by a belt off the crank.
When the AC is on, does the load on the engine increase the higher the blower setting?

Oh, one more thing I forgot to mention: don't ever put the car in neutral while it's moving. Driving in neutral in the S just wastes gas and messes with the ECU, also causing that "herky-jerky" engine rocking that occurs sometimes when starting in first after coming to a stop. I'll find the links if anyone needs them, but basically the ECU gets confused when the car is in neutral but still moving and it screws up the way it injects fuel.

Anyways, if you're in neutral, it has to inject fuel to maintain idle, whereas if you're coasting in gear, foot off the gas, it isn't injecting any fuel at all. You could be coasting at 7k RPM and as long as your foot is off the gas, it's not using any gas. Also, moving in neutral is more dangerous because you have no power/ability to accelerate and since the transmission isn't stopping you at all, it wears down your brakes faster and decreases stopping power.

Just another helpful tip.
Dam, I'm always shifting into neutral and coasting, lol.

i got like 40mpg with my 01 sc'd topdown going 70-80 all highway last night, surprised me, i never got that much before...

it seems like the car get better gas mileage over 4k rpm, when i cruise at 60 at 3.5k rpm, it doesnt seem like i get as much mpg

i get like 20-23 mpg driving 50/50 aggressively

maybe you should just get a supercharger like me haha

[B]I get an average of about 28mpg, with both city and highway. Nothing done to engine or exhaust, and don't get on the gas very much. Hope it don't go down as i make upgrades. John

I do about 90% city / 10% freeway, and VTEC quite often.

I've owned the car for about 2 months now and I average about 22MPG.

I have a DD so I don't really care too much about the MPG since I drive the car to enjoy it, not to get the best MPG
