Default ap1 and ap2. for the love of pete

The battle continues between many members on this forum regarding ap1 and ap2. I have taken part in plenty of my own, but not as one who thinks the ap1 is superior. So I'm posting this as a member, as us moderators are people too, and entitled to our opinions.

The topic has been beaten to death more than any other topic I think on this entire forum. In my eyes, the 2 cars are even. Both have their own attributes, and each brings something uniqe to the table that the other doesn't.

Why then is it that some are so adamant in stating one is better than the other? Mag times don't seem to indicate so (the ap1 has a 13.8 mag time and the ap2 has a 13.9), real world track times from countless members on the forum don't indicate so, and the ap1 and ap2 seem to perform fairly equal in auto-x. I think the only time I've seen the ap2 have an advantage was on some road courses. While the ap2 seems to be easier to drive faster, this doesn't make it physically faster. And while the ap1 has it's higher redline, allowing it to remain in a more aggressive gear longer, this doens't make it faster than the ap2.

I, myself, have posted in so many ap1 vs ap2 threads that I can't even tell you where to begin. I think that topic honestly comes up more often than "MY 2006" threads. I tire of repeating myself over and over again, and seeing each thread repeat through 6 pages of everything that has already been said. With so much arguing back and forth, NO ONE can come up with any evidence that one is better than the other. For every 13.8 timeslip an ap1 comes up with, and ap2 can do the same. For every magazine track comparison showing the ap2 being faster, another magazine can show the ap1 being faster. For every video of one beating the other, it is likely another video showing the opposite can be found.

After 2 years now of this kind of arguing, it seems as no end is in sight. You would think that the back and forth bantering of so many would make it quite obvious the cars are simply too close to call one way or another.

For people who swear up and down how much faster their ap2 is, stop.

For people who swear up and down how much faster their ap1 is, stop.

If you want to discuss the differences between the two, then discuss things that are obvious, such as better driveability around town in the ap2, or fun 9000rpm revving nature of the ap1, or whatever. But I for one, am going to puke if I see another 6 page ap1 vs ap2 thread.

I don't love my ap1. I love my S2000. Because in the end, that's what we all are fortunate enough to own.

I think the biggest difference (For ME) is that my 00 was N.F. RED and my 04 is SILVERSTONE. Oh yeah, and I had to wait in line and pay well over MSRP for my 00 (penalty for being an 'Early Adopter') and I got to pick out my 04, choose the color, and ONLY pay list.

Cheers, Mike

Totally agreed Wis, I've been lurking more than posting the last couple of months, but this topic has come up more times than I care to remember. I was wondering when you were gonna get sick of repeating yourself!

What is AP1 or AP2 short for? Is it just a model year abbreviation?
