you can get royal purple from most auto parts stores (advance, pep boys, autozone)
i hear it breaks down very quickly though, so you need to change it often.

that is what i heard about royal purple to. can anyone confirm that?
I used to use Royal Purple in my cars after Mobil 1 switched to their low sulfur blend. In my cars, as well as the cars of many other people I know through the 'other' car club I was a member of, Royal Purple was among the best oils for 5000+ mile oil changes. These were turbocharged V6 vehicles that many people were revving out to 8000 RPM.
However, I stopped using Royal Purple and started using Redline when I saw the differences in additive packages. Redline is equivalent to Motul 300V, and it's less than 1/2 the price.
If you *really* want a definitive answer to "which oil is the best" you'll need to try them all for 10,000 miles each, and after every oil change get an oil test done by Blackstone Labs. I've been happy with the wear characteristics of both Royal Purple and Redline (good reports from Blackstone), while Mobil 1 has really fallen off the map.
If you want a fantastic oil that will protect your engine through serious abuse, either Royal Purple or Redline will do just fine. Redline just has a more exotic additive blend that *may* help combat wear a bit more at super-high temps (these engines don't get anywhere near hot enough to test it without having installed a turbo/SC).
Just sharing the info...
