Default anyone with their aftermarket parts insured?

just curious,
anyone of you guys insured your aftermarket parts,
such as hood, wheels, ht, spoiler... etc.?

or is such insurance even possible?

with growing number of my friends who got their cars broken into,
i was wondering if such thing is a smart decision.

seung, i'd like to know the answer myself. but i think you just sent everyone out scurrying to check, first, their cars so they're still there and, second, their insurance to see if what just got stolen is insured.

My insurance requested a list of all my mods!

So I guess they are covered in my policy!

Everyone here deals with one insurance company, and under normal coverage, $6000 of mods are insured.

You can pay more to get higher coverage on mods.

I haven't gotten around to do it yet, but it is definately a good idea for highly modified cars.

Yeah it is a good idea to list your mods with your insurance company, even though you may pay a little more on the policy, at least they will pay for those parts.

If your car gets stolen - don't expect to recover any aftermarket parts, even if the car itself is recovered.

Similarly, if you are one of those people who had the MING coating (or whatever paint treatment your dealer does) on the car, you may also want to tell your insurance about this.

Some insurance policies have a maximum value on items such as stereo etc, and it may be a good idea to ask beforehand.

I know that when I insured my car, I told the agent very specifically that I needed the hardtop covered under the insurance as well and I gave him the value of it. I never looked into the specifics of it in the terms of the policy, but I'm assuming that it was calculated into my payment.

I know for a fact that the agent wouldn't try to screw me or anything; he's a close family friend.

after market parts can be insured under renter's insurence. I do not know how extent they will cover but I know for sure, as long as you have proof of purchase, things such as radio, camera, radar detector, & etc can be covered.
