Default Anyone here gone from an MR2 Turbo to an s2000?

Hi, I'm new here but wanted to ask a simple question. Has anyone here gone from owning an mr2 turbo to owning a Honda S2000? If you have, please tell me what your impression is on the switch, and how you think each cars are stronger than the other, then finish with telling me which you prefer and why. I'm sure that mostly everyone will say they prefer the s2000, as I'd expect, but i'm really just looking for some insight into the decision to possibly sell my mr2 to buy an s2000. Thanks for your time guys,

Paul

I owned a MKII-T '91 model. I miss it... I love my s2000. But the MR-2T has TONS of potential for mods with little amount of money spent. The S2000 handles a little bit better and while it has a twitchy rear-end its not as unforgiving as the MR2 is. You can make a S2000 be a giant killer just as the MR2 can be... it just takes more cash to get there. As hard as Mr2s (atleast GOOD ones) are to find nowadays id say keep it... save up cash and buy an s2000 and have both. As I said before... I always wish I still had my Mr2T but a tree headon at 85mph took care of that and waas going to get another one but decided to go with something different. The interior of the s2000 reminds me of a more up-to date version of the MKII interior. Both cars look damn good modded too. I REALLY miss having the *WOOOOSHING* sound of the intake behind my head and the BOV popping.

I had a 91 NA MR2. I agree that they were lots of fun but the rear end took a lot more skill to control than my S2k. It had more torque (2.2L) and launching from a dig was pretty easy because of it's midengine design. It was pretty reliable too. I miss it sometimes but then I put the top down and go for a drive on a sunny day and all is well in Vtec land.

I had a 93 MR2 Turbo, which dynoed right around 285 rwhp; it was a lot of fun until I blew the engine at 144,000 miles. I had to part it out because replacing the engine and mods would have been too expensive.

The car was a lot of fun; I miss it's power and lower end torque. It was my first car and a great RWD car to learn on. I feel like the reason I can drive the S2K to its limits is because of my experience with the MR2 (I spun the MR2 out a number of times).

I will miss the t-tops but they don't beat the top down on a mid 70's degree day

I used to drive a 91 MR2-T with JDM gen II motor. Definitely miss the torque, good power increase on relatively minor modding and mid engine feel. I sold it for an offer I couldn't pass on. I would've bought another MR2 if it wasn't so hard to find one in good condition. Now that I have a career, I can't afford the down time and maintenance for a 10+ year old car. In my opinion, it's a toss up between the S2K and MR2 as long as the MR2 runs well and is in good condition. If your car is in good condition, keep it.

I used to have a '91 MR2 Turbo boosted to about 300hp. The MR2 was definitely faster and it had more grip cornering. I prefer driving the S2000 though, it's more direct, not at likely to spin mid-corner, and convertible. I never really cared for the T-tops in my MR2.

I had a 91T that was modified to about 280hp. I love that car and it "felt" wayyyy faster than my S does. I still like the driving experience of the MR2 more, personal preference. I also really loved the look of my white one (not so hot on some of the other colors).

I sold it with 123,000 miles because I was tired of minor problems all the time. I don't think it was an unreliable car but it had lots of very common nickle and dime stuff that was just starting to pile up. Hose from hell, oil leaks, broken exhaust manifold stud, blown turbo. All of the problems mentioned seemed to be common and the car was beat on its entire life. Engine and transmission were rock solid. Original clutch.

I bought the S2000 and was not in love with it but it was cool enough an relatively cheap. I grow to like it more everyday. The convertible top is great, the steering makes the MR2's seem numb, it makes great sounds. The best thing is since I have low milage I don't have to worry about spending weekends fixing things.

The best way to sum it up though is that if they still made the MR2 turbo new at the same price as the S2000 I would have bought another MR2 turbo. But it is an imperfect world and the S2000 is still a nice car.
