Anyone add an outside temp display in their S2000?

Hey VTEC4-2, how do you like that auto dimming feature? When I first started researching the S2000, I also looked at a BMW Z4 (that didn't last long! ) and got to test drive one that was owned by a friend. It had the auto dimming feature and it was "really" nice.

The temp and compass features and Ok but I'd really like the auto dimming part if it works half as well as the one on the Z4 did.

The couple of times I drove at night it worked really well, just as well as in the 3.2 TL I had.

It doesn't lighten in reverse anymore, they took away that wire in the harness "because in 90% of the installations it was not hooked up" (MITO).

I ran the reverse wire but there was no "white" wire to hook it up to... waste of 3-4 hours!

Does the garage door opener work? That would be handy!

Yes the garage door opener works at a better distance than my Genie remote ever did...

The compass works great! I need it often, when on back roads trying to follow my DeLorme map

The map lights are whitish LEDs and come on with the door to add lots of extra light on the center console!

Did you have to remove the mounting bracket on the windshield and put a different one on? That was the main problem encountered with the other options mentioned previously in this thread.

Yes, you need a new mounting bracket (it's just a thin wedge of metal) and a professional to change it for you.

They used epoxy (instead of adhesive) to install the new bracket for the Gentex, based on the glass shop's recommendation. They did it for free but I held my breath hoping the new glass they were going to install wouldn't break when they took off the button that already comes attached to the glass. It didn't.

There may be another way to adapt (or fabricate an adapter) to mount the mirror without removing the old "button" from the windshield. I'm going to look into it, maybe I can draw something up in Solidworks that would work.

Here's what the OEM mirror looks like inside:

The adhesive is a round circle of material. After being removed it looks like this:

There are more pictures in my photo album. I don't want to take over the thread Maybe it's too late
