i guess the question is would you ever buy any car with no knowledge other than a quick visual inspection and 30 seconds in the seat ....
[pleads guilty..but i was very fortunate..]

But I did buy my car without ever driving one. I saw it at the car show and I completly loved it, I sat in it before hand and it felt good. I know this was probably stupid, but when I drove away from the dealer, that was the first time I had ever driven a standard car. I did have a motorcycle though, so that helped. I had no idea where reverse was, thank goodness I didn't have to use it. Needless to say, I didn't stall once in my 30 mile trip to work.

I've read up on them, visited this site back in 2000, and sat in one (MY00) at the dealer. This was the most important to me, since at 230lbs and 6'1", I don't fit well in some cars (like the 350Z).
For MY03 I had one dealer fire one up for me so I could see the instrument cluster, but I never actually drove one. Why? Quite simply because of the past cars I have had, the S2000 would be light years ahead of anything I currently experienced. That combined with the fact that I "knew" how to drive a manual, but had next to zero experience actually driving one. Driving one at this point would have me overly nervous about handling the stick and I would never get to enjoy the car itself.
So when a reasonably priced MY03 appeared, I bought it with 8 miles on the odometer and had my credit union deliver it to me.
After verifying that it's condition was what I expected, I signed off on it and drove it home (stalling it twice).
