My first test drive was about two hours before I drove the car home. It was just a normal drive around a few blocks. I liked the car just the way it was.

Bought my "S" without test drive. Did alot of research first. Oh yeah, living in a very rural location also limited choices. Only other dealers that were even remotely close by limited me to either a Mazda Miata or a Toyota MR2. No BMW's. Audi's, Merc's, or Nissan. Just Ford, Dodge and Chevy.

I have not regretted the purchase.

 

No way I'd have bought this type of car without a test drive. The dealer let my friend and I take out a used '01. I fit, I liked, I bought one a few months later.

 

calpilot - you think it may have something to do with the fact that there are a ton of other options that the general public likes (excluding many bigoted S2k owners), like the Z4 and 350Z drop top. I personally love my 02 - but i see no downgrading of the 04. I autocross the heck out of my car, and have done much to attempt to get my 02 to the supposed "soft" 04 specs - heck Koni yellows, setup with a stiff front and soft rear, go on for next year.

And to stay on topic - I bought my car after quizzing S2k drivers at autocrosses, reading s2ki, and reviewing ALL the Mag reviews (Motor trend, C&D, R&T, SCI, European car - really, Autoweek and the negative British reviews). Nothing helps more than the comparos. If you read enough reviews you can read between the lines. Never drove the car till I drove it out the dealership (was shocked at the lack of torque - my other car is an M3), but loved the handling, and two days later when I broke 600+ miles, I found out that low end torque is not all that matters.

I pretty much know what i want and then just try to find a deal. This market (350Z Track, RX8, S2k, EVO, STI all in the same approx price range) is the first that would require me to test drive.

 

ok..let me rephrase that....has anyone other than me bought an s2000 with out ever seeing one before buying it [no friends;no rides; no test drive articles..no s2ki site!]

i guess the question is would you ever buy any car with no knowledge other than a quick visual inspection and 30 seconds in the seat ....

Even though I've loved the car since day one have no regrets, that will probably be the last time I buy a car a without test driving it. . . Unless Honda develops an S3000 or a totally revised NSX

 

I do lots of research on the cars I buy..........and never test drive them or if I do I DON'T buy the car I test drive. I did not test drive my 04 and it made no difference at all.
