So Richard, since you own an S2K, does your Dad think you're a rich American capitalist now

according to my dad, only 8 S2000s were sold in Taiwan. they cost approx. 2-3 times what we pay for here.
there's an old joke about mercedes in Taiwan: you take the series number (say S500), and add 1 million Taiwan Dollar behind the 500 and that's your typical S500 price. BTW, this was when exchange rate was around 30 NTD to 1 USD. now your dollar stretches a bit more, i think around 35 to 1.
have fun!

The joke at Fall Colors lunch:
"There is a silver S2000 with the lights on ...."
Joke at a picnic in a park:
"There is a black BMW with the lights on ...."

Not that many Taiwanese have seen the S2K. When I showed my S2K pictures in Taiwan, they all go . But they all made fun of the color, as you will see all kinds of yellow Japanese car as cabs (civic, tercel, corolla...). I was like, "have you seen a convertible taxi??"
4igs2000, you should go to Hong Kong anyway, tickets are cheap when you buy them in Taiwan, and they have tons of flights going daily...

most taiwanese still hold the believe that only european cars are well built, all others are just cheap imitations. interestingly, people who make those claims know didly squat about cars. all my taiwanese friends are like this. they believe japanese cars are nice daily commuter cars, but when it comes to luxury and performance only the europeans know the secret.

I go to Taiwan all the time, about 7 times a year (I'll be there in December as well I think). There are a few S2K's, but obviously not many.
There is a large mountain racing and track scene using predominantly Japanese Sports cars with tons of tuning shops and tuner cars, so I don't know what the other posts are saying about Japanese cars not being popular or frowned upon ~ I should know, my cousin had a race shop there.
Taiwan is a great, great place to visit just as long as you don't go expecting all the comforts of the West!
