In August of 2005, I had to get my rear bumper repaired under warranty due to the infamous rear bumper defect that everyone knows about on AP2s. Since the paint had flaked off a bit, it needed to be repainted.

When I got it back, the color looked fine in daylight, but under artificial light (street lights or the fluorescents in my underground parking), the color was off.

So I said I wasn't too happy with it and so they took it in again recently to paint it again. This time they took my gas cap lid and used a special camera to take a picture of the color and create a formula to make a matching paint.

However, it seems like nothing has changed. In fact, I think it's slightly off in daylight now too. This time they told me that this is the closest they can get the color to match and that they can't do any better. All they would do is keep my pictures on file, so that when I return the car at the end of the lease in 4 years, I won't get dinged for a bumper that doesn't quite match.

Has anyone else with a yellow ap2 s2k experience this same problem? I'm willing to swallow the pill if other yellow s2k's have the same problem and can't get it any better. I'm no paint expert, but maybe yellow is a difficult color to match.

Hey! I have a Spa yellow. Alittle bit of a different color, but either way yellow is a huge pain in the butt to match paint. On my S someone attempted to cover some scratches (before I owned the car), and did a horrible job. I don't think that they will be able to perfectly match the color. JMO

As stated earlier, Rio and Spa are very difficult colors to match perfectly. Unfortunately there are plenty of owners here who have had the same problem as you. My '05 GPW came from the dealership with chipped paint on the rear bumper, but I have been afraid to get it repainted because of this issue..

 

yellow is hard to match..especially rio..its metallic in color..btw, do you have both ap1 and ap2 wheels?..cause it changed in both pics..that my guess

They should be able to do much better than that.

 

When the dealership trashed the front bumper on my '05 Rio during a routine oil change, I had to have them swap it out with a bumper from another new '05 Rio on the lot.

The paint shop told the dealership that there was no way they could match the color if they had to repaint.

I paint, and thats a terrible matching job. the yellow honda uses is very hard to match though. Im not sure if they use pearl paints or just do layers of pearls on top of one another, but it is near impossible to get it to look the same twice when those types of steps are taken to paint a car.
