The symptoms are an exact match. I remember seeing other 01' owners talking about this when I first got the car. I did not notice it at that time though.
Anyone else have the "loose" drivetrain sensation as you depress the clutch when going slow in first gear?
How about the bump feeling through the seat (bottom of the car) as you shift (row) gears (1-2, 2-3, 3-1, etc) while coasting with the clutch depressed?

Scott, I'm in Ballwin and if you want, we can compare cars tomorrow assuming the weather is clear. If you want, I'll be home tomorrow afternoon, just give me a call: 636-527-3005.

I just noticed similar problem. when engine starts cold, with mormal engine sound plus drrrrrrrr.. type of sound. After Phweeeeee sound and RPM drop, drrrrrrr... sound become softer and eventually fades away as I drive. Any opinion?

I am pretty sure that this is a function of the emission system. There is a pre-heater on the catylitic (sp?) converter to lower emissions while the engine and exaust is cold. I am going to take it to the dealer to have it inspected. Sounds like I am supercharged for the first 45 seconds from a cold start
