It's as if they're trying for a more coach sort of look, rather than high-tech racer. It's not to me taste. It's not really worse, though. Just different. *shrug*
Yes, the 06 leather is different. It has a more grained finish on the red and the black leathers. The red is a little less "red" than before and the black on the seats is is called "anthracite" -- it looks like a dark charcoal rather than the shiny black of previous MY. Note also that the sides of the console are now black, too, instead of red as before, and the headrests are solid black..
Here is my S taken on a cloudy day. The last photo is of the 05 interior from Honda's webiste for comparison. I actually have put my car side-by side with an 05. Both cars look good. If you like RED, you will prefer the 05 interior, if you want something that still stands out but does not shout "red," then you will prefer the 06. It is all in preferences. IMHO, I like the 06 better -- the 06 interior is somewhat classier looking, like you would expect on an Italian exotic. The 05 is definitely racier.

Good eye. The vinyl parts of the door are the same as the old red, the leather part, the perforated insert in the center of the door is the new red. Honda could have matched them better.
