Not a fan of trucks since I don't haul anything & hate filling up every other day. I found a chick into cars, but too bad she's my gf's cousin

I am with you on everything minus girls working on their cars. I'm indifferent... I think it's cool and I respect a girl who can, but I don't start pitching a tent over it like most guys do.

Now, a girl who can drive a manual? Good lord... a favorite of mine are girls you see in the summer wearing their short shorts and tank top in their Wrangler with the doors and windows off, shifting through the gears. Any manual car a girl drives gets kudos from me, but the Jeep combo is perfection to me

Oh and to stay on topic, I never get tired of seeing the S2K make lists like this... so awesome since its been 15 years since it was first produced and it still gets acclaim!

Sports car are only 5% behind pickups. Win in my book lol. Unless you live in Texas (I live in Houston) then the list dramatically changes:

• Pickup trucks: 73%
• Sports cars: 17%
• SUVs: 2%
• UPS truck: 3%
• S2000: 2%
• Mail truck: 2%
• Sedans: 1%
• Hybrid or electric: 0%

Now that I think about it, the guy I'm seeing has a truck (in the same color as my S2000, amusingly enough). I call it the happy truck. His other vehicle is a Ford Focus (in the same color as my Elise, amusingly enough). He keeps his car and truck in good working order and clean. Much like the study indicates, I do consider that important, but *unlike* what the article claims, I NEVER think "This is a guy who can wash my car as well." That thought never crosses my mind. I take care of my cars. He can take care of his.

Why is driving a manual something exciting in North America? Just about every driver in Europe or South America has had a car that was stick. Not sure why auto is so popular stateside but there are a lot of 'average' looking females elsewhere in the world not getting a hotness bump for knowing how to drive a car.

Is it because it suggests a better ability to please a man in bed? Or is it the intelligence factor? I'd be more impressed if a woman knew about world events, had a formed opinion on more then makeup or could balance her check book. Then say could drive a manual gear box. What I detest the most is hearing people going on in public about how amazing a phone or purse is. No gender bashing here guys and girls do it. Like that's what matters. Someone bragging about being able to drive stick is about as impressive to me as someone who can spell their name; properly. My 3 year old can sign his name.

Maybe I'm too practical. My wife can't drive stick. The first one could after I taught her. There seems no meaningful connection.

Why is it the 'happy truck'? I've always liked what a pickup truck affords you to do. Driving one has just always been so boring. Parking it in a field and looking up into the night sky in the bed and seeing where things go is always fun. The wife and I rent a truck now and again.

I also figured you get an insight into how people are by how they treat their things. A reasonable sense of order and cleanliness is healthy. Someone who is worried about the odd stone chip or afraid to drive the car hard boring. Someone who treats their car like a trash bin or puts their feet up on a dash - a sign of trouble. To date I've not yet been wrong.

Because it's a cheery shade of yellow just like my S2000 in Rio Yellow Pearl, which I also find to be a very happy car (not that I call it that).

We are drifting rapidly off topic about S2000s and we may find the thread getting moved into Off-Topic, which would be a shame.

My two take-aways from the two stories referenced in the OP are that 1) statistics can be used to draft up any manner of articles drawing all sorts of conclusions which are really just suppositions and interpretations and 2) car owners love seeing Top 10 lists which include their own cars and while they might not agree with any of the other choices in the Top 10 list, they will insist the author got it right when they picked the one car that the reader owns.
