Another blown diff . . .

Another blown diff . . .
Add me to the list of blown diffs. As I was driving to lunch today, I heard a loud whine. It would get louder as I accelerated and would stop all together as I slowed down. I thought I had a exhaust leak since it was coming from the rear of the car. As I exited the freeway and slowly braked, I heard a loud as f*ck crunch, crack, whatever from the rear. The first thing that popped in my head was that I ran something over or that my exhaust had fallen off and scrapped the ground. I noticed nothing after visually checking the car, so I just decided to drive off. But as with all blown diffs I was going nowhere. I put it into gear . . . nothing. I leave it in neutral and try to roll it . . .nothing. The diff is all locked up and my car was stationary for the next 30 minutes until a flatbed could come. Once the Freeway Service Patrol came they told me that I couldn't use a flatbed since it couldn't be rolled. So I had to get a regular tow truck and they had to use "dollies" on the rear.
Sorry for the long post, but I will end it with a warning to all who go to Menlo Honda. We towed my car to Menlo and Chuck was nowhere to be found. So another guy named Reed helped me and told the tow truck guy to "park" my car in a lot against a large metal garbage unit. Well, something went wrong and my car quickly rolled back toward the garbage unit. Then . . .BooM! Luckily nothing was damaged because the dolly stopped the car from hitting the garbage unit. I was pretty mad, but what really did it was when I looked at Reed and that f*cker was laughing. He then proceeded to be a total asshole about everything. If you are going to Menlo Honda, go straight to Chuck and avoid all the other assholes.
Chuck told me that they were probably going to rebuild the diff (doh!). I will update everyone as soon as I can. Until then, I'll have to settle for that rental Geo .

dude that sucks about your car but that will get fixed and be on the road again. I can't believe someone that works for Chuck would treat anyone like that. I hope you told Chuck cuz I am sure Chuck will take care of that situation. I have talked to Reed a few times and he has been nice and friendly. But I didnt have to rely on him to take care of my car. I will be calling Chuck and find out whats up with this.
METRO??? For 10.00, I had a '02 Infinity I35....did you get your car from Enterprise?

That dude Reed didn't even look to see if anything happened to the car when he laughed. He laughed when it happened . It's cool, Keith. You don't have to talk to Chuck about what happened. I just want my car back without any hater marks. I hope my VAFC is still there when I pick it back up . To think what would have happened if I actually made it to dyno my car today? And about that Geo, that was what they all had left. Last time I got the same Geo and went on a little L.A. trip with it to pick up some rims. This time it'll be parked in the McDonalds parking lot for some SFSU classes while I'm tryin' to pick up on some education.

Update: Called Menlo today and talked to Chuck. He said that I don't need a rebuild nomore but a whole new rear end (whew !). I'm going there tommarow to inspect the damage, but from what Chuck told me it is going to be really scary. He said there is nothing left of the diff, but only dust! Thankfully this happened eariler than later because I only have 4 thousand more miles till the warranty expires. Latez!

My diffy began its' death around 12 K miles. A leak allowed the fluid to fall below normal which started some wear on the bearings. Once the bearings loosened up the diffy began to howl. The dealership repaired the leak and replaced the fluid but the howl remained. Later an attempt was made to replace the bearings, ring and pinion gears. The repair lasted about 36 hours before the noise returned. Honda Tech Line and the District Service Manager agreed that the dealer had little or no experience with RWD vehicles so they suggested another rebuild at a local Off Road specialty shop known for building drag car rear ends. The off road shop said the whole unit should be replaced and they made the repairs without incident.
In a nutshell my car was treated better by a 4X4 shop in a couple of days time after spending four months at the Honda dealer.

Hmm.. I sure don't know what to think about all this, but what I can say for sure is that Chuck and Menlo honda have an impeccable service record. And the fact that you would even insinuate that they might damage your car or steal from you is ludicrous!
For the record, Chuck/Menlo Honda is the ONLY dealership I would let near my car.
I know I am not the only one who feels the same. I recommend everyone check out the following links.

Man, it's obvious your daddy never put you over his knee and paddled your backside. You have no right to trash the guys at Menlo Honda. Reed has been taking care of my cars for 10 years and has never let me down. I don't now or have ever owned the same kind of car as the dealership he works at but I'll follow him where ever he goes. Your lucky those guys are taking car of it because I saw your diff. and that is not a manufacturers defect that caused that mess....... YOU DID! Zot was right on the money with his reply. Daddy buys you a nice car and then you beat the crap out of it until it breaks. Then you go screaming and whining until someone fixes it for free. It's guys like you that make the guys at Menlo Honda's job harder. And if you had any brains you would listen to krazik's response. Reed did try to stop your car from rolling into the dumpster when the tow truck driver was screwing up and YOUR CAR RAN OVER HIS FOOT! Your lucky he was laughing and not suing your lame punk ass. I'm with the Silver Surfer. Reed has been an exceptional service advisor to me over the years and if you treat those guys with respect and courtesy you'll get the same in return. If you act like a punk you'll get treated like the punk you are. Guys like you ruin things for the rest of your club. I wouldn't think the guys at Honda would put up with you.
