I'm bringing this back from the dead for an update.

I finally got a thousand miles on this gearset so yesterday I got the diff fluid changed. Since the car was going to be on the rack at the mechanic's place it seemed a good time to drain and refill the transmission too.

The diff had Mobil 1 in for the break in and it came out looking pretty much like it did going in. There was also no metal on the plug at all. I don't think that can be attributed to the gear oil (more likely the hardness of the gears and the install) but I figure it couldn't have hurt.

The big surprise has been with the transmission. I decided to try the GM Synchromesh FM instead of the Honda MTF and I'm delighted with the result. I have no idea how long this feel may last but it's much smoother (especially the 1-2) than I can ever remember. If it lasts a year or more like this I'm sold.

btw - I had to resort to searching my own posts to find this; sometimes that can be quicker than using a search phrase especially if you can remember a general time frame. fwiw

I hear you. Sometimes I turn the radio down and hum along with it. It is getting fainter with the top down though.
